Women in Engineering

The Women in Engineering Scholarship Program (WIE) allows high school freshman, sophomore, and junior women, who are academically talented in mathematics and/or science, the opportunity to investigate careers in engineering and science. Students participate in engineering sessions, group projects and special topic presentations. In addition, students have opportunities throughout the week to interact with female role models and other talented peers. WIE is a week-long investigation of engineering careers in areas such as chemical, mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, materials, computer, geological, nanotechnology, computer science and related engineering disciplines. During the program, students have the opportunity to: • Explore several different areas of engineering through labs and hand-on activities. • Learn from female role models working in engineering fields. • Discover team skills and apply new engineering knowledge during group projects. • Learn about college life and extracurricular activities. • Meet a diverse group of other talented females with similar backgrounds and interests, from all over the country and the world. • Enjoy team competitions, a variety show, and other recreational activities in the spectacular natural setting of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Please note that the program schedule is intense, but it provides a unique chance to discover the unlimited opportunities that careers in engineering and related disciplines can offer. Scholarship valued at over $1,000 and covers tuition, room and board, and supplies.
